FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Harrisburg, PA – January 23, 2025 – The Cybersecurity Association of Pennsylvania (PennCyber) is proud to champion Data Privacy Week, an annual effort to raise awareness about the importance of protecting personal and organizational data which kicks off Monday January 27th.

Scott Davis, Chairman of the Cybersecurity Association of Pennsylvania, emphasizes the urgency of data privacy in today’s digital landscape:
"You can't protect what you don't know, and you can't secure data when you don't know where it is. Recent events, like the concerns surrounding TikTok, have underscored the critical importance of knowing where and how your data is stored and used. In the wrong hands, something as simple as a video could be weaponized to create deepfakes or enable targeted social engineering attacks."

Davis also highlighted the risks businesses face, stating, "For organizations, it's just as critical. Without proper processes and controls, you might not even realize that employees are storing sensitive company data on non-trusted platforms, leaving your business vulnerable to breaches and misuse."

As part of Data Privacy Week, PennCyber is offering actionable guidance to help individuals and businesses "Take Charge of Their Data." This initiative focuses on educating the public about how to identify where their data resides, implement stronger data management practices, and protect themselves from misuse and cyber threats.
